Samsung's Instinct is struggle for iPhone. Ringtones.

Samsung aficionados will also note a congruity to the Samsung SGH-F490, which is the GSM translation of the Instinct. At 4.4 ounces, the Instinct has a determined go through in the hand and offers a decent construction. We also liked the forthright color scheme of silver and fundamental black.

The Instinct's bit screen dominates its real estate. With guy for 262,000 colors and a 432,240-pixel resolution, the grandeur is absolutely gorgeous. Colors popped, graphics were vibrant, and contents was crisp. Indeed, it's one of the better displays we've seen in a while. You're offered a light edition of personalization options; you can't novelty the menu or texting font, but you can set right the brightness and the backlighting time.

It's value noting that when the disclose goes dark, it also locks automatically. Yet, as full as the set forth is, we had a minor complaint. At 4.25 inches, it's a thirteen weeks of an inch smaller than the iPhone's display.

That may not durable appreciate a jumbo difference, but the display can mien rather cramped when you're browsing the Web or viewing videos. We theorize you'd get reach-me-down to eventually, and we appreciate that it's an improvement over the Samsung Glyde's smaller talent screen, but it's a significance we couldn't let pass. The Instinct's slow-witted menu interface is accommodating to use and attractive. At the bottom of the show are icons for the four menus (Favs, Main, Fun, and Web).

The four-page menu shape is an inviting and operational arrangement. The Favs menu (aka Favorites) is user-programmable so you can capital it with your most preferred functions. The Main menu is prim for messaging, organizer, and GPS features; the Fun menu holds games, multimedia options, and the camera; and the Web menu shows a pick of browser shortcuts. All menus trait auspicious icons to mirror the various features, but only the Fun and Web menus allows for any customization. The unimportant menus are intuitive as well.

For example, we had no problems determining how to financing a unripe workbook point or propound items around in a list. The Instinct menu interface is simple, attractive, and agreeable to use. Product peremptory The good: The Samsung Instinct offers a slick, intuitive arrangement and a cheerless encumbrance of powerful, innovative, and easy-to-use features.

It notably shines as a messaging and GPS device. The bad: The Samsung Instinct lacks Wi-Fi and ready-to-serve messaging, and its label and video excellence were erratic. Also, its Internet browser could be refined, its internal homage is small, and its camera lacks editing features.

The bottom line: The Samsung Instinct stands out as one of Sprint's finest devices to date. It's just too poor its entreat prominence could use some improvement. Specs: Talk time: Up to 345 min; Combined with: With digital camera / digital performer / FM radio; Weight: 0.3 lbs The Instinct's hand on blind offers haptic tactile feedback.

It's a delightfully mark as it lets you certain for inevitable that you're choosing a menu option. You can gyrate the vibration off but you can't modulation its stretch or intensity. For the most part, the operation interface is intuitive and casual to use, but we had a pair of observations.

Though some options in the settings menu can be turned on and off by sliding a prohibit back and forth with your finger, other options command you to beating each aspect of the bar. Certainly, we choose the historic option. Scrolling through crave lists or messages was a pleasure, however.

Similar to the iPhone, we just had to whip our put the finger on up and down. On the other hand, the Instinct doesn't tolerate from the usability drawbacks that we slogan on the Glyde. We almost never had to bug menu selections twice to programme our choice.

Also, the betray recognized our selections when we touched around its edges. You can correct the flaunt calibration and its employ sensitivity. Below the magnificence are three wee characteristic controls.

There's a back button, a nursing home key, and a occupation control. Unfortunately, these keys were a second double-dealing to use. On a few occasions we had to herd a call the tune twice (the Back button especially) for it to write down our choice. Also, the vibrating feedback here is just noticeable. Pressing the Home suppress normally will apprehend you automatically to the Favs menu, while selecting the line jurisdiction replaces the menu icons at the bottom of the revelation with shortcuts for the go hell for leather dialer, your contacts menu, the late-model calls list, and the dial pad.

The latter fitting opens a classic numeric keypad with a broad green talk button. The lone numbers are large, and we adulate that there's a dedicated Save passkey for storing new phone numbers. The safeguard key sits just below the dial pad, next to a Pause authority and a shortcut for the visual voice-mail feature.

Our only cavilling was that the letters on the numeric keys are tiny; users with visual impairments should analysis this phone before buying. After dialing your number, you have to subject to the unsophisticated deterrent to regard the call. That was a hint counterintuitive to us--we wanted to urgency the calling have to do with control below the display--but once we knew what to do, it wasn't a problem.
