LG, Vizio Settle Patent Electronics.

The ITC was scheduled today to resolve whether to disallow sales of some Vizio liquid-crystal show TVs in the U.S., following a marketing judge’s ruling in September that Vizio infringed a copyright owned by LG. The LG clear relates to a scheme to disorganize a TV’s use, such as is done by hotels or rent-to-own businesses. In summation to the ITC cases, laic suits were awaiting in federal courts in Texas and Maryland, and at the Taipei District Court.



Vizio vies with ’s Samsung Electronics Co. for the edge in U.S. sales of LCD TVs. LG is the world’s third- largest maker of LCD sets.

Also named in the complaints was Taipei-based AmTran Technology Co., which makes Vizio TVs. The cases are In the Matter of Video Displays, 337-TA-687; In the quandary of Certain Digital Televisions and Components Thereof, 337-742; and In the Matter of Certain Flat Panel Digital Televisions, 337-733, all U.S. International Trade Commission (Washington).



The courtly suits were LG Electronics Inc. v. Petters Group Worldwide LLC, 08cv163, and LG Electronics Inc. v. Vizio Inc., 10cv161, both U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas (Texarkana); Vizio Inc. v. LG Electronics Inc., 09cv1481, U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland (Baltimore); and 99-Yi-Diao-Zi No. 737, Taiwan Taipei District Court.
