For what it's worth, I credence in Davis is exultant with his location in San Francisco. The 49ers are allowing him to catch on the pro plan at his own traverse while placing no coercion on him to rush into the starting quarterback job. And it appears the 49ers' seasoned quarterbacks, starter Alex Smith and backup David Carr, have bewitched him under their wing. Brett Favre refused to do that when the Packers drafted Aaron Rodgers.
After reading Bob Kravitz's column in Monday's Indianapolis Star, it seems Manning isn't disposed to to hold Painter's handwriting during the uncut spots. "I'm scholarship a lot from Alex and David," Davis said. "They're working with me, and they're great guys. They've helped me so much with (understanding) protections and everything. Just listening to their patois from being in strange systems, that claptrap rubs off and you get it a lot more.
" Colts fans might be let down that Painter, and not Davis, is the backup to Manning. But Davis likes his situation.
