ROCHESTER, New York - Eastman Kodak Co. said it is suing South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc. for infringing various digital-camera patents it obtained between 1993 and 2001.
The photography products establishment alleges that camera phones made by the Seoul-based electronics companies and their U.S. subsidiaries debase patents on its inventions cognate to sculpture capture, compression and details storage, and a plan for previewing action images. The lawsuit filed Monday in federal court in Rochester seeks unspecified nummular damages. Kodak also lodged a grouse with the International Trade Commission in Washington, a stir up designed to hinder importation of products made with the disputed technology.
"We've held discussions with both companies in an effort to resolution this question and have not been able to get in touch with a not bad agreement," said Laura Quatela, Kodak's head scholar peculiarity officer. "Consequently, we must acknowledge this juridical action." The fight centers on patents issued in 1993, 1997 and 2001, Kodak spokesman David Lanzillo said. Samsung issued a declaration Tuesday saying it "forbids breaking and unsanctioned use" of the mental hallmark of other companies and "plans to come back actively to this litigation," according to Lee Eun-hee, a and and private limited company spokeswoman. LG, meanwhile, flatly denied Kodak's claim.
