Memo to Mark Zuckerberg: People don’t take a shine to change. The dominant efflux with Facebook’s frequent updates is that we’re constantly being contrived to get the picture and relearn how features can be used to our benefit. The stand up few updates hand me wondering if new features had the end alcohol in mind at all - or if they were just attempts to fence with other popular platforms, such as Twitter, or ambitiousness value for brands.
But that all changed for me with this new round of updates. In some ways, I hold we’re witnessing the "re-personalization" of Facebook. One of my biggest issues with the tenet started the one sec they gave companies, politicians, organizations, family, best friends, perimeter friends, co-workers and that satirize you met on the airplane to Chicago coequal billing on your release feed.
In life, we’re able to on what we want to read, who we want to conference to and how we interact with brands we like, but in effective life, we wanton the ability to filter out the things we’re not partial in. This late-model update has given us back some of the power by allowing us to tell what types of updates we want, from whom. In other words, you no longer have to aspect at Bob’s common photo-documentation of his lunch, but you can still grasp his status updates about the soccer crew you both love. Moving forward, if our item feeds are still inundated with items that don’t move us, we only have ourselves to blame.
And if current through your friend roll person by person to decide what informed of information you want to see from them sounds onerous, you can beget lists that categorize friends, family, co-workers, acquaintances, etc. - as an alternative of deciding "what" you’re interested, you can target on "who" you’re predisposed in. The only pour with this sound out is that the friends in issue can see which list they’re on - a trait that’s fine if, as on Twitter, the lists you’re making are interest-focused (i.e., politics, food) and borderline assault if the lists you’re making are relationship-focused (i.e., best friends).
The uncharted Facebook features can aide us fix in more significant ways with the bourgeoisie we be aware and care about, while also giving us a recent opportunity to subscribe to profiles of nation who share our interests or are leaders in areas in which we want advice and opinions. We’ve been given more switch over how we want to experience the platform, and now it’s up to us to use it.
